Two free concerts in two days? Yes please!

Concert #1: Jack Johnson @ the Santa Monica Pier
Cleaned the beach Saturday morning and was rewarded with a free ticket to see Jack Johnson. It’s sad to see so much trash littering our coast, most which could’ve easily been avoided. The trash comes from litter traveling through the drain systems as far as 60 miles away from the ocean! Definitely going to take the extra step to do my part in keeping the streets clean. The concert itself was great. It’s always a chill time listening to Jack, this time literally. Standing on the pier on a windy night gets super cold, should’ve brought out the blankets.
Concert #2: Janelle Monae @ The W Hollywood
Thanks to Erin for sending out the invites and to Belvedere for providing the liquid refreshments all night long. If you haven’t heard of Janelle Monae, check her out! Great performer with a soulful voice. It was a short set, but still very fun. The only thing I regret is not taking a picture of the gorgeous LA night skyline. I blame it on the Belvedere.
Tightrope – Janelle Monae
One last note, Josh stumbled across a SICK remake of Jay-Z’s 99 Problems. Hugo is the latest artist signed to Roc Nation, and his sound is clean, classic rock. Can’t wait to see what the full album sounds like.

If you haven’t been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of Glee. On a spontaneous whim, Alyssa convinced me to go to the Glee tour, 4 hours before it started! Best impulsive decision ever. The cast of Glee is currently touring the incredibly talented LXD. I’ve been a fan of LXD for a while, and the small screen just doesn’t do them justice. I got a chance to chat with Jon Chu, an extremely cool guy who also happens to be the brainchild behind the LXD. A big THANK YOU to all the members of LXD, especially Jon M. Chu, Harry Shum Jr., and Chris Scott, for putting together such an inspirational show. (is it too much if i wanted to make my own LXD fan shirt?

After an amazing opening by the LXD, the Glee cast came out full force! It amazes me how Glee has managed to capture the creative spirits in everyone. The Gibson Amphitheatre was instantly transformed into a giant karaoke room. The audience were dancing and singing along FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW. Definitely one of the funnest tour experiences I’ve had. Period.
The weekend fun continued with a trip out to the Devil’s Night Drive-In in downtown LA. The parking lot rooftop is transformed into a drive-in with the gorgeous downtown LA backdrop. BYOB and a great vibe made this an especially fun screening of the classic John Hughes’ Pretty In Pink.
There are hidden gems everywhere in LA. I grew up in this city, and I’m still learning just what it has to offer.

after YEARS of saying “i have to snowboard at mammoth”, i FINALLY popped my mammoth cherry. and it was good. very good. no more amateur days at the local mountains for me!
the last time i geared up was 3 years ago. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG!? i freaked myself out for no reason, boarding is like riding a bike. you just don’t forget. it also happened to be the same weekend of the annual roxy chicken jam. thanks to some awesome planning and friends at roxy, we partied the weekend away VIP styles with a concert by n.a.s.a. and bravery! (didn’t make it to the bravery though, i’d like to blame that on the a-a-a-al-co-hol)
Song 2 – Blur
life’s been a bit hectic as of late. there’s rarely a moment to sit and breathe it all in…but when i do get the chance to stop and smell the roses, it feels abso-effing-lutely fantastic.

The last time Glow was announced in 2008, I had high, high hopes. LA (Santa Monica) was going to have it’s own version of the French art festival, Nuit Blanche. Art from all walks of life are displayed with the city itself as the gallery. Glow 2008 was somewhat of a disappointment. The art pieces were few and far between. Granted, it was partially my fault for getting to the festivities late (thank you city of Santa Monica for having such shitty parking), I was hoping for more.
Here’s hoping Glow 2010 gets its act together and puts on a great festival!
